Energy Audit Diagnostic Tests

Several diagnostic tests will be performed during the energy audit.

The Blower Door Test

During the blower door test, a powerful fan is mounted into the frame of an exterior door. The fan then lowers the air pressure within the home by extracting the air from the inside and pulling it out. Because the pressure outside is higher, air from the outside is pulled into the house through unsealed cracks and openings.

Next the auditor will use a thermal imaging camera as well as a smoke pencil to detect all of the air leaks through out the home.

The blower door test can usually be completed within an hour or less.
