Does it take longer to get a green mortgage? How much additional paperwork is involved?
The green mortgage process does include the extra steps of getting an energy audit completed and figuring out which repairs to make and how much they will cost. However, an experienced EEM loan officer will be able to give you direction as to the best time to set up the audit to make the process go as quickly as possible.
The whole process should not add more than an extra day or two to the closing process. It may actually speed it up the bank in coming back with the final loan approval.
You will be submitting a HERS report that is supplied by the energy auditor as well as completing a two page Energy Addendum form. The end result is definitely worth the little amount of extra work.
